This 310 page field guide is the first in a series exploring places shaped through the nexus of people and culture—looking at the rituals, stories, and meanings that bind them together in Rajasthan, India.
Drawing together photography, interviews, insights and impressions, these guide was developed en-route together with our partners and correspondents in lively Jaipur, rural Dhun, the dramatic Thar desert and the ancient fort city of Jaisalmere. Created by the team at The Place Bureau, in partnership with cultural correspondents around the world, these guides offer reflections on the relationships we hold with the places we love: their deep histories, everyday textures, and potential futures. In uncovering place identity, we’re driven by curiosity. We find fascination in what others might overlook—the ordinary, the overlooked, the quietly meaningful. We don’t always know where that curiosity will lead, and that’s very much the point. Wherever we go, we seek out like-minded local partners: playful, inquisitive, and open to the wonderful and the weird.
With thanks to The I Love Foundation, Dhun, and the MRS Group.
